This lecture will broaden the knowledge of healthcare professionals working with individuals who have sustained a severe Brain Injury. This includes medical management, best practice in assessment and treatment options (safety, early mobility, cognition, etc.), strategies to support family/caregiver, and long-term care considerations. The interventions & techniques reviewed will enhance the probability of successful management of the brain injury population.
Learning Objectives:
- Define disorders of consciousness (DOC)
- Differentiate criteria of DOC: coma, vegetative and minimally consciousness
- Assessment and clinical management of potential medical issues
- Recommendations and practice guideline updates for DOC
Members who are logged will be provided with a CE Credit link (below) for the duration of 3 years from the original presentation date (noted above). After 3 years, CE will no longer be made available. Members however are still welcome to watch the presentation independently for non-CE credit.

Speaker(s):Ginger Nemenz, RN, BSN, CCM, CBIS joined Shepherd Center in 2010 as an admissions liaison where she educates patients and their families about rehabilitation opportunities. A native of Arkansas, Ginger says, “I love knowing I am helping people who are in a traumatic situation and to ensure a smooth transition for patients. I have been on the family side of an injury and I know how it feels when a loved one is hurt.”
Prior to joining Shepherd Center, Ginger was a labor and delivery nurse and ER nurse in Memphis. She was also a nurse liaison for HealthSouth rehabilitation facility in Memphis. She attended the University of Memphis and obtained her Bachelor of Science Nursing from the Baptist College of Health Sciences.
