STN - EAST Foundation Nurse Fellow Program
The EAST Foundation Board in collaboration with STN has established a Nurse Fellow program. The purpose of the program is to provide exposure of trauma nurses to the EAST Annual Scientific Assembly and gain access to key leaders in trauma care. The Nurse Fellow will be supported for travel, hotel and registration fees made possible by donations to the EAST Foundation Nurse Fellow program. The successful candidate(s) will be assigned a mentor who will assist the fellow with designing a plan for programs to attend and interviews with leaders. Daily, the Nurse Fellow will write a “news brief” that will be sent out via electronic blasts and highlight programs and events from the day. The Fellow will also author an editorial that will be run in the Journal of Trauma Nursing following the meeting to summarize their experience and put out call for future Nurse Fellows.
The Society of Trauma Nurses first collaborated with the Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma (EAST) on a limited basis in 2003 by providing the nursing CEs for EAST’s Annual Scientific Assembly. In 2004 and 2005, STN co-sponsored a session called the Leadership Roundtable.
In 2006, the EAST leadership offered STN an opportunity to expand the annual meeting attendance to include trauma nurses. In 2007 this was expanded to include two plenary sessions and a one-day course, Trauma Outcomes and Performance Improvement Course® (TOPIC), and in 2008 the collaboration continued with sunrise sessions, a parallel plenary and a full-day workshop. Since 2009 the collaboration again included sunrise sessions, a parallel plenary and a full-day workshop.
