Rural facilities see Pediatric Trauma infrequently but are expected to respond with confidence. One rural facility experienced pediatric trauma that seemed chaotic and disorganized. Armed with this experience they completed the EMSC pediatric readiness score and noted multiple shortcomings. We will discuss how this facility has transformed pediatric trauma care in its facility with the support, mentorship and virtual education from a regional trauma center.

- 80% of participants will identify how EMSC pediatric readiness scores can impact trauma responses
- 80% of participants will describe ways to improve their pediatric readiness using the EMSC tool as a guide

Speaker(s):Sara Daykin, DNP, MSN, RN, CNEcl, CPEN, TCRN is an Assistant Professor and Director of the Prelicensure undergraduate BSN program at the University of New Mexico. Prior to joining the College of Nursing in 2020 she worked in the Pediatric Emergency Department at UNM Hospital for over 20 years. During her 30 +yrs. as a nurse she has had many interests and areas of practice include SANE nursing, case management and emergency preparedness. She has presented locally, nationally and internationally on a variety of subjects including emergency preparedness, emergency pediatrics and rural pediatric care.
